Polyethylen und die UmweltPolyethylen ist unter ökologischen Gesichtspunkten eines der umweltfreundlichsten Materialien:
- Es ist ein effizientes Material. Für die weltweite Produktion wird jährlich noch nicht einmal 1% der gesamten Erdöl- und Erdgasproduktion aufgewendet.
- Die Herstellung von Polyethylen ist relativ sauber und effizient: Der Schadstoffausstoß ist minimal, und es entsteht nahezu kein Abfall.
- Polyethylen ist sehr gut wiederverwertbar. Es handelt sich um ein thermoplastisches Material, d.h. man kann es nahezu unbegrenzt einschmelzen und wieder zu neuen Produkten verarbeiten. So werden heute unter anderem viele Tragetaschen und Hausmüllsäcke aus recyceltem Polyethylen hergestellt.
- Wenn Polyethylen nach Gebrauch eingesammelt wird und nicht mehr neu verarbeitet werden kann, stellt es einen hochwertigen Brennstoff im Rahmen der Energieversorgung dar.

- Polyethylene ist extremely suitable for reuse. It is a thermo-plastic material, which means that it can be melted down and used for making products virtually indefinitely. Nowadays many carrier bags and dustbin bags are made from recycled polyethylene in this way.
- When polyethylene is collected after use and it cannot be processed again, it supplies a high-grade fuel for the provision of energy.
